The burial was in Pleasant Grove cemetery. He passed away on Wednesday morning soon after being admitted to the Keokuk County Hospital of a heart ailment. He was born on April 16, 1909 at Lancaster near Sigourney, the son of Earl A. and Kittie Utterback Reynolds. He attended the Lancaster school, later graduating from Sigourney High School. In December 1931, he graduated from the Hohenschuh-Carpenter College of Embalming in St. Louis, Missouri. As a youth he assisted his late uncle, A. S. Reynolds, in the operation of the Reynolds Funeral Chapel and in May, 1934, he purchased the funeral home from him. On June 1, 1931, he was married to Evelyn Kirkpatrick of North English and they became the parents of four children: three sons, James of Sigourney; Jon, who is a counsellor in a boys' dormitory at an Air Force Base in Dreux, France; and Joseph, a senior in high school; and one daughter, Kitty, now Mrs. Donald Wineinger, of Des Moines. Also surviving besides his wife and four children, are two grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl A. Reynolds of Sigourney and one brother, Charles of Anoka, Minnesota. Mr. Reynolds was a member of the Christian church in Sigourney, and had served in various offices in the church. During World War II, he served in the Marine Corps and was a member of the Harry Barker Detachment of the Marine Corps League in Washington, Iowa. He also belonged to the Leo Farmer Post of the American Legion and was the first commander of the Lacey Kerr VFW Post. He was a member of the Iowa Funeral Directors Association and was a past president of the sixth district. From 1951 until 1957 he served on the Board of Trustees of the Keokuk County Hospital serving as chairman during the time it was being constructed and later as a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Webb Lodge AF & AM, Independent Order of Odd Fellows No. 98 Izaak Walton League, and the Lions Club. For 22 years he served as Keokuk County Coroner and was a former member of the city council. A memorial fund has been established for the Sigourney Christian Church. Casket bearers were Norman Burmester of Des Moines, Glen A. Ewing of Fontanelle, Art Garland of Oskaloosa, Carl Johnson of Ottumwa, Hugh Johnson of Centerville, Willis Jones of Washington, John Peine of Davenport, Jack Shadduck of Clinton. Honorary Bearers: Carl Black of Moravia, Guy Hyde of Oskaloosa, Louie Jones of Washington, H. V. Zimmerman of Omaha, Nebraska.
