Description	:	Irvine Willard "Rusty" Whitmore was born the son of John Wadell and Neva Davidson Whitmore. His mother ran the Hooper hotel for a time and Rusty grew up in that area of the county. As a young man, Rusty lived in Spokane for a few years where he managed the "Piggly-Wiggly" restaurant. Following that, he moved to Moscow and briefly ran a small restaurant before moving to Colfax. He married Bernadine Elna Pyburn in Colfax January 9, 1930. This last Friday the couple celebrated their 79th wedding anniversary! His mother ran the Hooper hotel for a time and Rusty grew up in that area of the county. As a young man, Rusty lived in Spokane for a few years where he managed the "Piggly-Wiggly" restaurant. Following that, he moved to Moscow and briefly ran a small restaurant before moving to Colfax. He married Bernadine Elna Pyburn in Colfax January 9, 1930. This last Friday the couple celebrated their 79th wedding anniversary! In the early years of their marriage Rusty held various construction jobs. He was known as a hard worker and he had the ability to do most any type of job. In 1941 Rusty started working in the Whitman County road department. During a career that spanned thirty years Rusty worked his way up to county engineer and retired in 1971 as maintenance supervisor. He was a good speaker and often spoke to his peer groups around the state about safety issues and explosives. Rusty had a beloved boat, the "Shady Lady", and he loved to spend time boating the Snake River or fishing at Badger Lake. He also enjoyed camping and hunting and liked to golf. He was a charter member of Community Bible Church in Colfax and a member of Hiram Masonic Lodge #21. He is survived by his wife, Bernadine, at their Colfax home; two sons, Larry of Redmond, WA. and Rob of Colfax; 6 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Darrel Dean Whitmore in 1975 and by 8 brothers and sisters.
