Mather at his home 803 Marion Street. The deceased was attacked with remittent fever about November 1st but his condition did not become serious until last Sunday when a complication of diseases set in which affected his heart and caused death. Irving Cotton Mather was born March 24, 1855, at Polk City, Iowa, his father being Dr. David Mather for years a practicing physician in these parts, dying some years ago in Boonsboro. The deceased could trace his lineage back to Cotton Mather of colonial days. In 1877 Mr. Mather was united in marriage to Miss Lillie Caldwell of Pilot Mound. Two children, Mae and Guy, were born to this union and with the devoted wife survive. Besides one brother, Edward of St. Helena, Cal., and one sister, Mrs. Frank Schmidt, of San Francisco, mourn the loss of a kind brother. Mr. Mather has been engaged in the real estate business here for years. He has also held city offices of various kinds, notably assessor. In the death of Mr. Mather the people of Boone lose one of their best citizens and a man noted for his conscientiousness and geniality. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the First M.E. church. Rev. J.N. Harris officiating and the remains laid to rest in Linwood cemetery.
