Irv was the son of Leo and Ethel (Buchnam) Church and was born in Osage, Iowa. He was a graduate of Osage High School and he attended Drake University in Des Moines. Army before he reported for duty so the dairy... Read More	Irving M. "Irv" Church, 94, of Newton died on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at the Newton Village Healthcare Center in Newton. Irv was the son of Leo and Ethel (Buchnam) Church and was born in Osage, Iowa. He was a graduate of Osage High School and he attended Drake University in Des Moines. In November of 1943, Irv was united in marriage with Vera H. Brain. Irv worked as a cheese maker at the Maytag Dairy, he received a 90-day furlough from the U. S. Army before he reported for duty so the dairy could find someone to replace him. When he returned from WW II Irv went to work in the office of the Maytag Company in Newton. He retired in 1986, as the payroll accounting supervisor. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Newton. Irv loved to have his granddaughters and great-grandchildren around. He had enjoyed golfing and camping. Those left to cherish Irv's memory are his wife of 72 years, Vera of Newton; children, Steven M. Church of Richardson, Texas and Joyce (Gary) Bagnall of Johnston; his four granddaughters, Cassie (Brian) Crummett of Pella, Kim (Rob) Douglas of Ankeny, Amy (Dave) Van Blair of Ankeny and Kristi (Steve) Sterling of Ankeny; nine great-grandchildren, Alexis, Brianna, Anna, Katelyn, Chase, Preston, Isabella, Rozzie and Ben; his sister, Carlene (Wilbur) Tesch of St. Ansgar; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Clifford Church.
