IRWIN D. WOOD BURIED TODAY: Funeral services are being held this afternoon for Irwin D. Wood, widely known Delaware County banker and businessman who died on Friday at his home, 621 North Chester Road, Swarthmore, after a four months illness. Rites at his home will be followed by private interment. Mr. Wood, who was 85, was a descendant of the Palmer family which settled in Concord Township on land grants received from William Penn. Born in this county, he spent his entire life here. He married Anna M. Mitchell, of Hockessin, Del., in 1879. She herself is a descendant of early settlers. Following a short period of employment with the Pennsylvania Railroad, he entered the lumber and coal business in the old Thurlow section of Chester and at Marcus Hook, being in partnership with his brother under the firm of L.N. Wood and Brother. He retired from this business 25 years ago. Mr. Wood was one of the founders of the Cambridge Trust Company, now the Chester-Cambridge Bank and Trust Company, and was vice president and a director until recently. He was a member of the Swarthmore Meeting of the Society of Friends. Besides his widow, he is survived by a son, Wilmer M. Wood, of Bronxville, N.Y.; two daughters, Mrs. Norman S. Passmore, of Concordville, and Mrs. Oscar S. Tyson, of White Plains, N.Y.; a sister, Mrs. John Hewes, of Prospect Park; eight grandchildren, and a great grandchild.
