Description	:	Isaac B. Sorter was born in Ovid, Seneca county, N. Y., on Feb. 4, 1816, and died at his home in Seward on Friday, May 11, 1906, at the advanced age of 90 years, 3 months and 7 days. Mr. Sorter's boyhood life was spent in New York State. At the age of 17 years he came with his parents to Ohio. He resided in that state in the neighborhood of 30 years. Y., on Feb. 4, 1816, and died at his home in Seward on Friday, May 11, 1906, at the advanced age of 90 years, 3 months and 7 days. Mr. Sorter's boyhood life was spent in New York State. At the age of 17 years he came with his parents to Ohio. He resided in that state in the neighborhood of 30 years. He was married to Miss Jane E. Wilson in Mayfield, Ohio, October 15, 1837. The death of his companion occurred fifteen yars ago. There were born to Mr. and Mrs. Sorter a family of 8 children (six sons and two daughters). There are four sons still living, two of whom were present. When the civil war broke out Mr. and Mrs. Sorter gave three of their boys for service to their country. These sons all acquitted themselves well and were honorably discharged at the close of the war. Just at the close of the war in 1865 the deceased moved with his family to Johnson county, Iowa. Here he remained 8 years when he emigrated in 1873 to Nebraska and settled in Seward county. Mr. sorter has been a resident of Seward for 31 years, so that his presence was a familiar figure upon our streets. He was clearly identified with the early life and development of Seward. For a number of years he was in the lumber and coal business in this place and was at one time mayor of the city. Besides the two sons present, Elijah Sorter of this county and T. C. Sorter of Towanda, Kansas, were at the funeral granddaughters, Mrs. Wallace Boon of Utica, Mrs. Nellie Merritt of University Place, Hubert and Daisy Sorter of this county, two grandsons, and Mr. Perry Sorter of Ulysses.
