Description	:	Isaac's father was Frank Blackman who died on the voyage to America and was buried at sea. Frank's wife had died in Holland. After the death in 1857 of his mother (Josina Kools) his father married Gosewijna Verduijn, with whom he had another three children. They all came to the USA. The American nation has been built up from its foundations to the present time with an adventurous and freedom-loving people, and the founders of the Union had the sagacity to forsee that such an asylum as they had to offer to the oppressed or those of limited opportunities of all lands would result in its quick and satisfactory upbuilcling. In proportion to population, few foreign countries have sent so many desirable citizens to the United States as Holland. They have been coming for four hundred years and incalculable and farreaching good has been accomplished by them in every phase of our national life, for they have ever been true to our institutions, ready to defend our flag in times of war and willingly bore the hardships of pioneer life in all sections; thus while benefiting themselves they have contributed much to the general good. Of this vast number the Blackman family is deserving of special mention. For over 30 years they have figured prominently in the history and development of Hardin county, Iowa, one of the best known and most progressive members of this worthy family being Isaac Blackman, an able and popular contractor and builder of Iowa Falls. Mr. Blackman was born near Amsterdam, Holland, and he emigrated to the United States when 10 years of age, in 1864, with his father, Frank Blackman, his mother having died previously in Holland. They were the parents of three children, namely: John, now deceased; Isaac, of this review, and Frank, who died on board ship while on the voyage to this country, and was buried at sea. The family settled in Wayne county, New York, and the father's death occurred at the age of 55 years. Isaac Blackman came to Hardin County, Iowa, in 1878 and engaged in carpenter work and he has continued building and contracting to the present time, and, being a very skilled workman and honest in his dealings with his fellow men, he has been kept busy, his services having always been in great demand. He has built several public buildings, including the city hospital, the public library, the opera house, some of the buildings of Ellsworth College, and many of the finest dwelling houses in the city; in fact, Iowa Falls can show many splendid structures which will stand for generations as monuments to his skill. Being a close observer and an assiduous student of text books bearing on his profession, he has kept well abreast of the times in all that pertains to his line of endeavor. Mr. Blackman was married in 1879 to Nettie Dillon, daughter of Dan Dillon and wife, a highly respected family of Iowa Falls, and to this union four children have been born, namely: Nellie, wife of Jesse Capwell, lives in Iowa Falls; Milo, who followed railroading, having been employed on the Illinois Central, died February 6, 1911, at the age of twenty-eight years; Ray lives in California; Leta lives at home. The wife and mother was called to her rest on Nov. 21, 1903. Fraternally, Mr. Blackman is a member of the Woodman lodge. He belongs to the Baptist church and is a Republican in politics. For some time he served very acceptably as city councilman, and he has always manifested much interest in the upbuilding and general progress of Iowa Falls.
