In Jan. 1868 they moved to the vicinity of Gilman, and in 1875 became residents of this city and a few years ago Mr. Gould purchased a fine little farm of 60 acres adjoining the corporation and built up a beautiful home which the family have ever since occupied. Mr. Gould enlisted in the Eleventh Iowa infantry in 1861 and was promoted to first lieutenant Company I, Forty-seventh Louisiana infantry and made regimental quartermaser. His patriotic services in behalf of his country entailed disease and suffering but with manly fortitude and energy he devoted himself to any business which had in hand, and his name was a synonym in the community in which he lived for so many years for honesty and integrity in every walk of life. His health became so much undermined that a year ago last spring he went to Colorado, accompanied by his wife, hoping to recuperate, but returned without apparent benefit, and has gradually failed until death finally stepped in as a sweet release. His family mourn the loss of a kind husband and father, and the community a valued citizen. The funeral services were held at the residence under the auspices of Cyrus Lodge A.F. & A.M. Rev. B.C.
