Garwood died of old age at his home near the corner of Sixth and Hudson streets early on the morning of Saturday June 11. The funeral took place Sunday afternoon from the residence, Rev. A.S. Freed, of the M.E. church, officiating. Interment was in Graceland. Mr. Garwood was a native of Ohio and had lived in Burlington since 1867. He was born in 1820 and had lived in both Ohio and Iowa prior to removal to this state. In Iowa he engaged in farming, but was a merchant tailor here until about ten years ago, when he retired from active work on account of ill health and left the business in charge of his son, M.W. Garwood. He was first married in Ohio to Miss Mary Ann Baker in 1845, and the second marriage to Miss Phoebe James occurred in 1863. There were four sons and a daughter by the first marriage, and all are living. They are Wilber, of Colorado; Charles, who lives upon a farm in this county; Edward, of Oklahoma, and M.W. and Miss Jennie, of Burlington. Robert, a son by the second marriage, lives in Nevada, Mo.
