Aged Kelso Man Missing for Nearly Week, Discovered Floating in Water Saturday by Kelso Children. FOUL PLAY HINTED Authorities Investigate to Find Probable Cause of Death; One Side of Face Is Blood-Covered. The body of Ike Dixon, 76 years old Kelso resident, who was missing from his usual haunts since the night of July 6, was found floating on the west side of the Cowlitz river opposite the Kelso depot on Saturday afternoon by Lillian Macy age 15, and Glen Marr age 12. Deputy Sheriff S.A. Earnst took up the investigation of the case when it was reported to Sheriff C.B. Dill and found evidence in support of a theory that Dixon might have been a victim of foul play. The case has been turned over to Cecil Hallin, prosecuting attorney and coroner and a post morten examination may be called. The right side of the dead man's head was covered with blood and it was evident that the injury occured before the man fell into the river. W.E. Hays, old time riverman and an acquaintance of Dixon, declared that the man did not drown. Hays says that the remains of a drowned person seldom if ever come up in the river within 10 days or several weeks whereas Dixon had been in the water only a few days. Dixon was last seen on Sunday afternoon, July 6, as nearly as can be ascertained. Hays talked with him that afternoon. The night before he was about town and in West Kelso. During the past winter, Dixon had slept in the old warehouse opposite the depot where a carpenter by the name of Larson is also staying. This spring, however, he moved his bed to a houseboat on the Columbia river where E.H. Coles lived. Officers raided that place last month and found a small liquor still in operation. Cole pleaded guilty and was sentenced to jail and Dixon was released on July 3, after being in jail just a few days. Suicide Not Impossible That the man's death was by his own intention is not improbable, according to his acquaintances. Dixon is said to have told many people that the Cowlitz river would someday claim his body and he had refused to live at the county farm. The dead man had lived in this Columbia river district all his life. His father and two brothers were also well known among the older residents. Ike Dixon came over from Clatskanie more that 40 years ago and Hays worked with him at Bunker Hill in logging operations 43 years ago. He has a sister living somewhere in California and a step-daughter, Mrs. Charles Clark, at Woodland. There is also another step-daughter. His wife died some time ago. The body is at the Nat Smith funeral home. arrangements for burial are pending action on the case by the authorities. Dixon's sister in California is said to have sent money to the Kelso man occasionally and one angle to the case is that the man might have been slugged and robbed. It is also possible, say unvestigators, that he had struck his head accidentally Sunday night and then either fallen, or jumped into the river. ****************
