The funeral was Tuesday with interment at Springdale cemetery. 6 April 1911 - West Branch Times Page 4 James Sharpless was born May 2, 1836 in Salem, Ohio, and died of paralysis at his home in Cedar County, Ia., March 25, 1911. He was the oldest child of Septimus C. and Sarah Sharpless, whose maiden name was Sarah Negus, and lived until 15 years of age in Western Penna. close to the Ohio line. When he moved with his parents to Cedar county, Iowa and settled near Springdale. He was married in 1857 to Esther Gibson, who died Jan. 17, 1903. To them were born 2 children, Clarence V. and Clariss R. of Cedar county, Iowa, who with 7 grandchildren also 1 brother and one sister, Evi Sharpless of Boulder, Colo. and Lydia G. Larson of West Branch, Iowa still survive him. He and his wife were reared in the Friends faith and during their whole lives adhered closely to the principles taught them in early life. Funeral services were conducted in the Friends church Wednesday, March 29 by Rev. Naley of Tipton, Iowa. Burial was made in the Springdale cemetery. Page 7 The funeral of Isaac Sharpless was held at Springdale during the week. Mr. Sharpless spent his boyhood days near the village of Springdale. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Nally of Tipton assisted by the Friends local minister at Springdale, Rev. Wooten. J. W. Horn, C. E. Mather, Lindley Embree, J. M. Berry and J. S. Fawcett were pall bearers. He was interred in Friends cemetery beside his wife who preceded him a few years ago.
