Description	:	Isaac Lewis (Ike) Bell, 89, of Big Ugly Creek Road, Boone County, lost his courageous battle with lung cancer on Monday, August 25, 2008 with his beloved wife and family at his side. Ike was born on March 22, 1919 on Big Ugly in Boone County. He was the son of William N. and Jessie Ann (Chandler) Bell. Read More	Isaac Lewis (Ike) Bell, 89, of Big Ugly Creek Road, Boone County, lost his courageous battle with lung cancer on Monday, August 25, 2008 with his beloved wife and family at his side. Ike was born on March 22, 1919 on Big Ugly in Boone County. He was the son of William N. and Jessie Ann (Chandler) Bell. He was a World War II Veteran and served in the 328th Army Air Force Unit in Gulfport, Mississippi from 1942 to 1945. He was a retired member of UFCW (United Food and Commercial Workers) Union Local 347. He was a member of the Danville Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Oda and Leora; brothers, Henry, Hobert and Herbert. Ike is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Jeanette Adkins Bell; daughters, Sandy (Jim) Staats of Pt. Pleasant, West Virginia, Sammie (Rick) Cook of Big Ugly and Marsha Ferguson (Gary) of Big Ugly; sisters, Jewel (Pat) Gartin of South Charleston, Dollie McCormick of Monroe, North Carolina, Nellie Barker of Beckley, and Ella Jarrell of Huntington, West Virginia. Granddaughters Jaime (Brent) Sang of Pt. Pleasant, West Virginia, Jennifer (Matt) Jernigan of Old Hickory, Tennessee, and Jessica Ferguson of Big Ugly; and one step-grandson, Justin (Melissa) Cook of Ft. Hood, Texas. He was also blessed with three great-grandchildren, Carlee and Brennen Sang of Pt. Pleasant and Kaylee Raine Cook of Ft. Hood, Texas. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-law throughout West Virginia and the United States. Ike was a meat cutter for most of his life. He owned many food establishments including the Danville Lunch and the Mecca Drive-In (later known as the Gateway Drive In). During his life he owned a grocery store on Big Ugly, drove a school bus, carried the mail and drove a truck hauling timber from West Virginia to South Carolina. He worked for Atkins Red Dot Supermarket at Alum Creek, WV and at Super Value in Danville, WV. He retired from Super Valu in 1981. He continued to cut and package deer, pork and beef at his home for another 15 years. The family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Radha and Dr. Sathish in Logan for their excellent care. They would also like to thank Dr. Kathy Harvey and the nurses and staff at Dignity Hospice in Chapmanville, West Virginia for their care and compassion during the past several months. The nurses who visited him at home every week and showed such compassion were truly appreciated by Ike and the entire family. The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 29 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville with Kenneth Mitchell and Richard Runyon officiating. Friends may call on Thursday, from 6 to 9pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens on Low Gap Road with military graveside rites performed by VFW Daniel Boone Post 5578, Madison, West Virginia.
