Isaac Mendenhall married Rachel Brown of Pennsville, Morgan County, Ohio the daughter of Benjamin and Amy BUTLER Brown. The marriage was performed at the residents of Rachel's parents by Justice of the Peace Clinton Drake. The four remaining children Mary Mendenhall, John B. Mendenhall, Hannah Ann Mendenhall and Manley Mendenhall moved to Iowa with their parents in 1865, settling on a farm three miles north of Salem, Henry County, Iowa on a farm bought from a man named Hockett. All the children grew up to maturity on this farm except Hannah Ann Mendenhall who died at the age of 10 and is buried in Cedar Cemetery, north of Salem, Henry County, Iowa. On 07-17-1837 Middletown MM gct Pennsville, where Isaac Mendenhall was rcd 06-14-1838. When he married Rachel Brown, contrary to doctrine by using a Justice of the Peace, Pennsville MM disowned Isaac Mendenhall. In 1893 Isaac and Rachel BROWN Mendenhall celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary with more than 100 guests, including four other 50 year Anniversary couples from Ohio. Isaac was presented with a gold headed cane in honor of the occasion. I believe the Hockett he bought the land from was either Amos or one of his sons' land before they went west to Kansas.
