At the age of 19 he enlisted as a private in Company G. 55th regiment of the Indiana infantry, and was once taken prisoner, when he suffered many hardships. Read More	Obit Isaac Layton was born in Rush county, Ind., May 4, 1842 and at the age of 13 moved with his parents to Boone county, where he lived until 1862. On Feburary 16, 1863, Mr. Layton then a lad of 18 years, was married to the girl of his dreams, Charity Arbuckle, a fair young maiden of 16, and together they traveled the pathways of life for 62 years. The loving wife, Charity Arbuckle Layton, was born near Rockville, Park county, Indiana, February 2, 1846, and passed to the Great Beyond about 2 o'clock Monday morning October 26, 1925. She was 79 years old and had been in good health with the exception of heart attacks which she suffered at different times and which were the immediate cause of her death. She lived with her parents near Rockville, Ind, until 1863 when she was married to Isaac M. Layton. To this union were born fourteen children, four having died in infancy. The surviving children are two daughters, Mrs. Clara Fox, Ranier, Wash., and Mrs. Lillie Shearheart of Mound Valley, Kan., and eight sons, Alonzo, Denver, Colo.; John, Miami, Fla.; Ora, Lander, Wyo.; Burl, Riverside, Calif.; Everett, San Bernardino, Calif.; True, Edna, Kan.; Jake and Alva of near Bartlett, Kan. Only two sons, John and Everett from out of the state were able to be present. Mrs. Fox returned to her home in Washington in August after spending the summer with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Layton were grandparents of forty children, of whom sixteen live near here. They also have twenty-five great-grand children. In the year 1878, they moved with their family to their farm five miles west of Chetopa, on which they resided forty-seven years, which was the remainder of their life. They were active members in the Christian church during their early life, but in later years,were unable to do active work, although they were of Christian faith unto the end of life. They were ever ready to lend a helping hand to those in need and will be greatly missed by their many friends. A double funeral service was held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at Bartlett and the remains were laid to rest in the same grave in Lake Creek Cemetery near Bartlett. The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. Lin D. Cartwright, pastor of the First Christian Church of Coffeyville. His Civil War Records state Isaac's birth as May 4, 1844 (discrepancy)
