Description	:	CEMENTHA AND ISAAC BEMIS Isaac "Ike" Bemis was born June 23, 1855, in DeKalb, Illinois. His parents were Moses and Rebecca Bemis who came from Vermont. Cementha D. Sopher was born August 31, 1854, in Cass County, Michigan. Cementha was the only Sopher child as her father died and her mother remarried a Bosley. There were step brothers and sisters. Ike and Cementha were married August 31, 1878, at Calhoun County, Iowa. They lived around Lake City, Cherokee and Woodberry County until they moved to Egan, South Dakota. His parents were Moses and Rebecca Bemis who came from Vermont. Cementha D. Sopher was born August 31, 1854, in Cass County, Michigan. Cementha was the only Sopher child as her father died and her mother remarried a Bosley. There were step brothers and sisters. Ike and Cementha were married August 31, 1878, at Calhoun County, Iowa. They lived around Lake City, Cherokee and Woodberry County until they moved to Egan, South Dakota. All seven children were born in Iowa and were farmers. They were: Fred LeRoy – July 18, 1879 to July 1956 Sebeka, Minnesota. Alice Lavina – December 28, 1880, to March 14, 1952, Egan, South Dakota. Ray Moses – June 23, 1883, to July 29, 1973, Egan, South Dakota. Anna Bell – November 22, 1888 to November 5, 1966, Mossoula, Montana. Almira Gertrude – September 2, 1890, to June 30, 1962, Chancellor, South Dakota. Ester Ethel – November 24, 1893, to February 19, 1895. Myrtle Luella – June 13, 1895, to October 1968 Egan, South Dakota. Ike and Cementha moved to Egan area in March 1911 with their family and some of their families. Here they resumed farming. Later Ike built a large home in Egan and moved from the farm and ran a butcher shop. The building still stands on Main Street at is the first building East of the post office. He specialized in making sausage and balogna and on the days these are made the town folk gathered and taste it. Cementha died December 1, 1920 and Ike lived with his daughter Almira in Egan and continued to run the butcher shop. He died September 8, 1930.
