Victory, Ohio, the son of Abraham Dille and Deborah Post. During the Civil War he enlisted as a private for 3 years at Earl, LaSalle County, Illinois, on September 2, 1861, and he was mustered into Company I, 4th Illinois Cavalry, at Ottawa, Illinois, on September 26. Victory, Ohio, the son of Abraham Dille and Deborah Post. During the Civil War he enlisted as a private for 3 years at Earl, LaSalle County, Illinois, on September 2, 1861, and he was mustered into Company I, 4th Illinois Cavalry, at Ottawa, Illinois, on September 26. He was promoted to corporal and honorably discharged August 5, 1862 (reason not specified). He returned to Ohio where he married Margaret Ann Marmon on January 16, 1863 in Bellefontaine. He re-enlisted and received a commission as a 1st Lieutenant May 2, 1864, and was mustered into Company H, 135th Ohio Infantry (a 100-day regiment), on May 9. He was mustered out at Camp Chase, Ohio, September 1, 1864. Six months later he re-enlisted as a 1st Lieutenant on March 9, 1865, and later that same day he was mustered into Company D, 192nd Ohio Infantry. Lieutenant Dille was mustered out at Winchester, Virginia, September 1, 1865, and returned to his family in Mt. Victory. Isaac and Margaret moved west from Mt. Victory in 1871 and settled at Fairmount, Nebraska for 11 years. It was there that Isaac filed for a Civil War veteran's disability pension March 23, 1880, and received certificate No. 496,117. He moved his family to Lompoc, California, in 1882. Isaac worked as a carpenter and was a member of Lompoc's Robert Anderson Post, No. 66, Grand Army of the Republic, where he served a term as the post's commander. After his death Margaret had the deed to their Lompoc property (lots 31-38, block 128) recorded in her name (Morning Press [Santa Barbara, CA], June 23, 1901; 3:4). Margaret also filed for a Civil War widow's pension at Lompoc July 8, 1901, and received certificate No. 525,969. --- ISAAC N. DILLE In mentioning the death of Mr. Dille, we cannot do better than to use the appropriate words which fell from the lips of Rev. J. C. Elliott, who preached the funeral sermon. He said in part: "The deceased, Isaac N. Dille, was born in Mt. Victory, Ohio, April 16th, 1837, and remained at the place of his birth until he reached the age of mature manhood. He was married to Margaret Marmon of Ridgeway, Ohio. In 1871, they with many others caught the desire to turn westward. They turned their faces toward the setting sun with a kind adieu to the place that had been home to them for more than the third of a century. They spent eleven years in Fairmount, Nebraska and in 1882 they came to Lompoc, which has since been their home. To them were born three children who still survive him. Mr. Dille was a man who made many friends, and some of his firmest friends today are found among those whose lot has been cast with his ever since the days of his boyhood... The fires of patriotism burned brightly within his breast, he was loyal to his country and to her flag. Three times when his country's cause demanded men who were willing to fight for the defense of her principles, he enlisted as a soldier who was willing to give his service and his life, if need be, to the cause so dear to his heart. Had this been the only virtue in the life of this man, we might well gather about his bier today and stand with uncovered heads to do him honor... His army life did much to impair his health, few men came out of the conflict free from wounds, or the deeper scars of a shattered constitution. Like most of the old comrades he loved to meet the men with whom he had endured hardship; but he was fought his last battle. He passed away Friday morning, June 21. I would commend the friends who feel most keenly this bereavement to the Great Commander who never deserts soldiers and who never lost a battle; Who hath said, 'I will not leave you comfortless.'
