Description	:	Ray was the fourth of nine children born to Charles Wesley and Sarah Ream Martin of Athens County, Ohio. He was of the Apostolic Pentecostal faith. He worked as a farm laborer for his father in York Township, Athens County, from 1900 to 1910, before working as a laborer at a local livery barn in York Township from 1910 to 1917, where he learned blacksmithing. He worked as a blacksmith for Semi-Wellston Coal Company's Carbondale Coal Mine in Athens County, Ohio from 1917 to 1920, doing metal fabrication and repairs. He was of the Apostolic Pentecostal faith. He worked as a farm laborer for his father in York Township, Athens County, from 1900 to 1910, before working as a laborer at a local livery barn in York Township from 1910 to 1917, where he learned blacksmithing. He worked as a blacksmith for Semi-Wellston Coal Company's Carbondale Coal Mine in Athens County, Ohio from 1917 to 1920, doing metal fabrication and repairs. As more electrical equipment came on line, Ray switched to being an electrician and continued working for Semi-Wellston's Carbondale Coal Mine from 1920 to 1929. In 1929, Ray took a job as an electric refrigerator mechanic at General Motors Frigidaire plant in Dayton, Ohio where he worked the remainder of his career. Ray registered for the WW I draft on June 5, 1917, but no record of service has been found. His job at GM may have exempted him. Ray lived in Waterloo and York Townships in Athens County and Xenia Ward I in Green County, OH. He and Edith E. Rustin were wed in Athens County on August 23, 1913 by Rev. E.D. Murch. Ray was buried in the Alexander Cemetery after a funeral service at the Athens Apostolic Church. He was preceeded in death by his parents and sons Phillip, Joseph, Harold and Lawrence. In addition to his wife, he was survived by sons Alfred and Charles and daughter Sally (Roser).
