E. Church of this city and were conducted by Rev. James, pastor of the deceased, assisted by Rev. J. W. Todd and Pastor F. E. Weston. Many sorrowing friends and relatives filled the church and lovely flowers expressed sympathy to the bereaved family. A comforting lesson was given by the pastor and his assistants and three beautiful hymns were sung by a men’s quartet led by Prof. Mountain. The pallbearers were: Glenn, G. A. and J. T. McNeeley, Ed Housel, John Freeman and Max Smith. Isaac Walker Isaac Walker, son of John and Charlotte Sidebotham Walker, was born in Manchester, England, Sept. 21, 1836, and died in Aurora, Ill., Feb. 18, 1926, aged 90 years, 5 months and 18 days. Thus the beginning and end of the life of Isaac Walker, so well and so favorably known for many years. In 1842 at the age of 6 years, he with his parents, four sisters and one brother came to the U. S. and located at Navoo, [sic] Ill. At the age of eleven he lost both his father and mother by death within a few weeks of each other. His brother also died about that time. From then on the family was separated; different members living in different homes and all with the exception of one sister passing away in early life; this sister, Mrs. Ellen Watkins, has preceded him in death a good many years. Mr. Walker was fortunate in finding a home that treated him kindly, for which he was ever grateful and of which he always spoke most kindly. He was permitted to attend school and as he grew to young manhood, attended Howe’s Academy and succeeded in procuring an excellent education. He followed the profession of teaching for a number of years. He spent some time in Texas where he was engaged in surveying. He was married to Miss Heneretta [sic] Hobbs, Oct. 24, 1860 and located in this vicinity where he continuously resided until two years ago when his wife preceded him in death, since which time he has been tenderly cared for in the home of his children. Mr. and Mrs. Walker were the parents of seven children, six of whom remain to mourn the passing of a kind and loving father. They are J. F.; A. T.; and R. N. Walker of Mt. Pleasant; Mrs. J. A. Sheridan, who was unable to attend the funeral on account of sickness, and Mrs. John Tynes of Chicago, and Mrs. H. N. Guzman of Aurora, Ill., at whose home Mr. Walker passed away. One daughter, Elizabeth Ellen, died at the age of three years in 1872. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and hosts of friends. After his marriage he engaged in farming and owned the old home farm at the time of his dath. Forty-two years ago he was converted and united with the Methodist church at West Highland and remained a member there until a few years ago when his membership was transferred to the Wesley church in the Pleasant Lawn neighborhood. All these years he has remained a faithful, consistent Christian man and the influence of his kindly disposition, his christian character, his long years of usefulness, his knowledge and goodly advice, his ties of friendship and his influence for good will live long in the memory of those who knew him to love him. He was an intense reader, and always was well informed on current events. He spent many pleasant hours over his books and papers. For the past few years he has been unable to read on account of failing eyesight, but has retained his interest in all things pertaining to the betterment and uplifting of mankind. He retained his mind and memory to the very last and just a day or so prior to his death gave some enlightment on a question pertaining to Ancient History. No word of complaint ever passed his lips. Reconciled and submissive, thus he lived, thus he died. To his children he leaves an heritage that is not counted in silver and gold. Sleep on dear one And take your rest.
