Isaac Hupp one of the best known residents of Brookville passed away rather suddenly this morning just after twelve o'clock with an attack heart trouble. While Mr. Hupp had aililg (sic. been ailing) for some time his relatives were not prepared for his death. For about 35 years he has been residing in Brookville and was well known to a large number of residents of that part of the county. He was about 60 years of age and leaves a family of six children, all of whom are grown, two of whom are at home. No arrangements have been made for the funeral owing to the fact that the children who live at a distance are expected to arrive some time today or tomorrow. It is probable that the last services will be held Saturday. Mr. Hupp was well known to many Fairfield people who will be shocked to learn of his death. ------------------- Fairfield Ledger Wednesday Nov. 24, 1909 (pages not numbered) Isaac W. Hupp Is Dead. Isaac W. Hupp, a well known resident of Locust Grove township, died at his home at Brookville the 17th inst. He had been in ill health for some time past, but had rallied and seemed on the way to recovery, when he was suddenly seized with fatal illness. Hr. Hupp was born in Washington county, Penn., in 1850, and came to this county as a young man. He was married here about 1872 (sic. Nov. 11, 1871) to Miss Ellen Lewman, who survives him. The were the parents of nine children, six of whom are living. Mr. Hupp was a painter by trade, had worked all over the western portion of the county and had a wide acquaintance there. The body was interred in the Brooks cemetery Friday. ------------------- Listing of children per Hupp family group sheet (which lists only eight children, while the Fairfield Ledger obituary for Isaac W. Hupp stated that he and wife Ellen were the parents of nine children, so it is possible that one child is overlooked in this listing): John Hupp, b. about 1874 (twin ??) Caroline "Kate" or "Carrie" Hupp Salts/Holmes (M1 1898 - Frank Salts) (M2 1902 - Frank Baxter Holmes) Maude Ellen Hupp Baker (Mrs. Fred Clyde Baker) "Daughter" Hupp, b. Sept. 18, 1881 at Abingdon per birth record, but no given name nor burial location indicated. Mary C. Hupp Baker (Mrs. John Ezra Baker) Edward Hupp (sic. a/k/a Charles Edward Hupp) Isaac R. Hupp Re: obituary for Ellen Hupp listed three surviving sons, Grover, John, and Harry. Assuming John is listed above, not certain if "Grover" and/or "Harry" are the missing ninth child, or if in reference to the "Sherman" Hupp previously listed. Any clarification would be appreciated. ------------------- Note: the inscription (top) portion of the Hupp monument is toppled and was difficult to photograph due to the sun coming through the leaves.
