Description	:	In 1851, William and Harriet Brewer Putt left Devonshire, England for their new home in America. The trip was made on a sailing vessel and it took six weeks to make the voyage. They settled first in Morris, Illinois but malaria was so prevalent there that they took the advice of a friend and moved with their family to Northport, Michigan in 1856. They settled first in Morris, Illinois but malaria was so prevalent there that they took the advice of a friend and moved with their family to Northport, Michigan in 1856. It was here that their youngest child, Isabel, was born on Sept. 20, 1864. Shortly thereafter in 1867, the family moved to Lisbon, Illinois. In 1883 they came to Nebraska among the early pioneers and settled on a farm northwest of Fairmont. Later they moved into the town of Fairmont and this has remained the home of Miss Putt continuously since then. After 1885, she kept the home for the father until his death. Since his death she has made her home along save for those occasions when physical conditions made it imperative that she have help. Isabel Putt was one of the pioneer members of the local Methodist church, having joined in 1884. She was a charter member of the Epworth League. For years she taught Sunday school classes. The work of both the Woman's Home and Foreign Missionary societies claimed her leadership and loyalty. Miss Putt also served in various capacities on the official board of the church, such as financial secretary and steward. The church of her choice was her pride and pleasure and she made many sacrificial gifts to promote its work. But her horizon of Christian interests included vastly more than her own church. Her heart was sensitive to the call of need wherever it came from. No one knows the number of secret benefactions she gave to needy ones. The beauty of her giving was greatly enhanced by her gracious manner of helping. She always made the recipient feel that it was a high privilege to help them. Miss Putt loved and was loved by young people. They were attracted by her joyous outlook on life, her radiant faith, her loving kindness, and her absolute loyalty to the highest. They believed in her sincerity and honored her staunch convictions. Little children also found their way to her home where they knew they would find a box of toys for their enjoyment. Here too they knew that a sympathetic interest and understanding love awaited them. It is small wonder then when the news came of her death on Friday evening, August 11, 1928, that all who knew her felt a keen sense of loss. While none could wish for her to linger on in prolonged distress, all must feel that earth is poorer and heaven richer by her passing. Of her immediate family, two sisters Mrs. Minnie Rushton of Omaha and Mrs.Lida Wright of Fairmont, and a brother, Frank H. Putt of Friend preceded her in death. Two brothers, Charles F. Putt of Afton, Iowa and William O. Putt of Omaha, survive. The only member of the family remainig in this community is a niece, Elizabeth Wright. Other survivors are her nieces, Mrs. Grace Cortelyou, Lincoln; Mrs. Edna Geyer, Seattle, Wash.; Mrs. Alice Shafer, Minneapolis, Minn.; Mrs. Irma Glattly, Oskaloosa, Ia.; Mrs. Nettie Bertwell,Omaha; and the following nephews: Howard, Raymond and Lyell Rushton, and Leslie Putt, all of Omaha; and Lyle Putt of Windom, Minn. Mrs. Frank H. Putt of Friend also survives. Funeral services were held from the Fairmont Methodist church at 2:00 Monday afternoon, Aug. 14, the pastor, Rev. Rob't L. Embree, officiating. A quartet composed of Mrs. Charles Little, Mrs. Mabel Quinian, W.E. Black and Oliver Moul sang, with Mrs. A.A. Ashby as pianist. Interment was made in the family plot in the Fairmont Cemetery. Pall bearers were W.R. Dorrance, M.M. Akin, A.P. Stewart, Harry Bergstrand, Harry Mills and Ora Robbins. Kritners in charge. Relatives and friends in attendance from other points: Charles F.
