Roy, 94, formerly of Durham NH, died Nov. 6, 2003, at the Dover (NH) Rehabilitation and Living Center. Born May 29, 1909, in Jefferson, she was the daughter of Alexander J. and Annie J. (McLaughlin) Rhome. She attended local schools and graduated from Plymouth State College and the University of New Hampshire. She was a teacher in elementary schools in New Hampshire until her retirement in 1968 due to illness. Isabel was a sponsor of the following: The Friends of the Library of the University of New Hampshire; the Humane Society of the United States, Washington DC; the Dover Children's Home; the Veterans Administration Hospital in Manchester; and the Historical Society of Jefferson. She was a member of the Church of St. Thomas More, the Alumni Association, and the Ben Thompson Club of UNH, The Union of Concerned Scientists, the American Red Cross Association, the New Hampshire Audubon Society, the Society for the Provention of Cruelty to Animals in Stratham, and the Gold Star Wives of America. She was also a member of the New Hampshire Retired Teachers Association, the Sterling Circle of Plymouth State College, and a lifetime member of the Durham Historical Society. Her interests were in science, children, animal societies, and the veterans hospitals. Since the death of her husband, Staff Sgt. William D. Roy, who died in France in World War II, she moved to Durham and made her home with her sister Margaret Kauppinen, who died on Oct. 4, 2003. She is survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins. At her request, there are no calling hours. Graveside committal prayers will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Cemetery, Dover Point Road, Dover, with Rev. Daniel St. Laurent, pastor of the Church of St. Thomas More officiating. A Memorial Mass for Isabel Roy and Margaret Kauppinen will be celebrated at Noon Wednesday at the Church of St. Thomas More, Madbury Road, Durham, with Rev. Daniel St. Laurent, pastor as celebrant. Friends are invited to attend.
