She was ill but a short time, old age contributing largely to her passing. Isabell MacDonald Smith was born in Daffton, Scotland, March 2, 1844 and passed away in her home at Creighton, Nebraska, August 6, 1934, at the age of 90 years, 5 months and 4 days. In 1867 she was united in marriage to Charles Smith and a year later they came to the United States, locating near Joliet, Ill, where they lived nine years, after which they moved to Colfax county, Nebraska, where they resided for two years. Fifty-nine years ago they homesteaded on a farm four and a half miles east of Creighton. In 1916 they moved to Creighton where she remained until her death. Nine children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Smith, five sons and four daughters. She was preceded in death by her husband, who passed away July 1, 1824 and one son, William, who passed away Dec. 31, 1899. She leaves to mourn her departure four sons; Charles Smith of Ottumwa, S.D., Jack Smith of Creighton, A.L. Smith of Creighton, Jay Smith of Longview, Washington and four daughters; Alice Smith of Boulder, Colo., Mrs. M.B. Kellogg of Creighton, Mrs. J.A. Reynolds of Murdo, S.D., Mrs. George Bonge of Plainview. She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; two brothers and one sister in Scotland. As a child Mrs. Smith accepted Christ as her personal Saviour and was a devout follower of Christ all her life. Her many and varied experiences in the pioneer days, especially her deeds of kindness to those who were in need made her an outstanding character in the community; her noble life, sunny disposition, pleasant smile will be greatly missed by her many friends. In the death of Mrs. Smith a large coterie of friends here lost the companionship of a woman whose acquaintanceship has been cherished and memory of her will endure, not only in the family circle but with others as well. Funeral services were held on Wednesday morning at the Federated church in charge of Rev. Ramseyer. Many friends were present at the last rites and the floral contributions were sincere attestations of the esteem she was held in by the community. Friends, neighbors and acquaintances alike extend sincere condolences to the family who mourn the loss of a dearly beloved mother.
