Description	:	Isabelle Lydia Gibbons was born in the family home near Linden, Guthrie County, Iowa on November 14, 1916 to Clarence "Clem" E. and Lelah (Barnett) Gibbons. Isabelle (Issie) attended Linden School and graduated in 1934. She moved to Des Moines to work in a hosiery factory and lived with her sister and her husband there. Read More	Isabelle Lydia Gibbons was born in the family home near Linden, Guthrie County, Iowa on November 14, 1916 to Clarence "Clem" E. and Lelah (Barnett) Gibbons. Isabelle (Issie) attended Linden School and graduated in 1934. She moved to Des Moines to work in a hosiery factory and lived with her sister and her husband there. Isabelle married John Peter Lawton on February 23, 1937, in her parents' home. They made their home near Cooper, Iowa. They had three children: James Eugene, Jerry Dean and Judy Ellen. They moved to Dawson Township in Greene County, Iowa March 1, 1943 and lived there until the early 1970's. Isabelle farmed alongside John until illness made him unable to farm. The boys helped her run the farm until she and John moved to Jefferson due to his illness. Isabelle was John's primary caregiver for several years. They resided in Jefferson until John's death on December 29, 1973. Isabelle worked at Dick and Jim's True Value in Jefferson for many years. On August 2, 1985, she married her high school friend, Dwayne I. Godwin, and they lived near Redfield, Guthrie County, Iowa for many years. They later moved into Jefferson. Dwayne died on August 1, 2001. In 2009, Isabelle moved to Regency Park Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center and lived there until her death on December 13, 2011. She is fondly remembered in the family for her ability to shift roles in life at a moment's notice, and she was not afraid to try new things. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother and a doting grandmother who was a true friend to all of her grandchildren. She had a lifelong enjoyment of knitting, crocheting, quilting and making Christmas ornaments for her family. Isabelle was not afraid to share a joke, even about herself. She was a birthright Quaker and was always active in her church and clubs in the community, including WSCS in the church, bridge club and Farm Bureau Women, to name a few. She was preceded in death by her husbands, John P. Lawton and Dwayne I. Godwin; her daughter and son-in-law Judy and Richard Conklin; daughter-in-law Lila (Oakes) Lawton, her parents, three brothers, one sister and their spouses. Isabelle is survived by children: James E. Lawton of Boxholm, Jerry D. (Cheryl) Lawton of Fort Dodge, Nadine Godwin of New York City, NY and Marilyn Godwin (Dennis) Gooch of Des Moines; sons and daughters, nine grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; 11 great great grandchildren; loving family and friends. Funeral Services for Isabelle Lawton Godwin, 95, of Jefferson were at 10:00 am Monday, December 19, 2011 at the Central Christian Church in Jefferson. Visitation was after 11:00 am Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson with the family present to greet friends from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Memorials are suggested to the Central Christian Church and may be left at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home. Burial is in the Dawson Township Cemetery, Greene County, Iowa.
