Description	:	Icy was the daughter of Lyman Hoskins and Rachel McMellen (not Steele). Her mother is listed as Rachel Steele on her death record. She was listed as Miller on some forms. Bob Glidden finds that Icy's parents were Lyman Hoskins (1784-1862) and Rachel Millen Hoskins (1786-1849). The North America Family Histories - Daughters of the American Revolution - lists their granddaughter, Mrs Sarah (Brown) Walker #51904 as: -- daughter of William Brown Jr & Lena Clough -- granddaughter of Joel Clough & Icy B. Hoskins -- great granddaughter of Lyman Hoskins & Rachel McMellen -- great great granddaughter of John McMellen & Rachel Steels ---- John McMellen served as a Private in the Rhode Island Militia. He settled in New Boston, NH, ---- removed to Littleton and died in Lyman. (Also #47143 -- record for Lena Clough). So it would appear Icy's mother was not Steele or Miller/Millen. It seems, if DAR is correct, her mother was Rachel McMellen and Icy's grandmother was Rachel Steels/Steele. You can see how thru the years the McMellen might have been changed to Mellen. Either by choice or thru bad transcriptions with people insisting the "Mc" be listed as a separate word, until it is eventually dropped off the records altogether. Before 1842 she married Joel Clough, son of Zacheus Clough and Sarah Pattee. Her sister, Phidella, had married Joel's brother, Hiram, in 1835 Lyman. Their children were Viola Rozillah, Valina A. "Lena", Flavia Drett, Levi O, and Ida Phidella. After her husband died Icy moved to Portland, ME and lived there until her death. Icy was predeceased by daughter Viola in 1847; daughters Flavia and Ida in Aug 1863; husband Joel in 1884. I can't find children Valina and Levi after the 1860 census so it is unknown if they also died. [Found Valina... as Lena... married William Brown in 1866... married Jeremiah Foster in 1873... died in 1923 in Portland, ME]. Age 79yrs 5mos Cause of Death: Pneumonia NOTE: Her father Lyman is listed in a story about his family as dying Jul 13, 1862 in Stratford, NH. This is incorrect. He was in the 1870 census, still with son Nehemiah. So if he died on Jul 13th it would have been 1872... not 1862.
