Following are the full particulars of her accidental death as published in the St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times: "Grabbing the pedestal of a faulty electric fan as she sat in a bathtub, Mrs. Isla Miner, 23-year-old wife of Sgt. Harold R. Miner, was electrocuted in her home at 613 North Avenue South about 4 p.m. Monday. "Attracted by the young woman's screams as the current "grounded" through her wet body, Mrs. James McClure attempted to gain entrance to the second story apartment with the aid of neighbors. Failing, she called the police. "Officers cut their way through the screen door and found the girl tightly grasping the whirling pedestal fan in rigid hands twisted in a tub half filled with water. Coroner John Fisher ruled it accidental death by electrocution. No inquest was necessary. "According to neighbors, Mrs. Miner was to have taken the 5:00 p.m. bus in order to attend a show at a convalescent hospital with her husband. Notified by military police of his wife's death, Miner was brought home. "Examination of the body showed burns on both hands where they had contacted the fan switch and steel pedestal rod. Fisher released the body to Palms Memorial." Isla Faith Hansen Miner, the daughter of Godber C. and Birdie V. Hansen, was born Oct. 8, 1921, near Paton. In this territory she grew to young womanhood and attended the public schools, being graduated from Paton high school in 1939. She knew what it was to be a real companion and blessing to her mother as her father was taken from her when she was five. Isla spent part of her early childhood with an aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Pemble, at Pilot Mound. Here she learned how to operate the switchboard in the telephone office. Later she moved to Bagley with her uncle and aunt and served in a similar capacity. She went to Perry in 1942 and was employed as an operator in the telephone office there. Since then she has held similar positions in Phoenix, Ariz., and St. Petersburg, Fla. Nov. 17, 1944, she was united in marriage to Harold H. Miner at Perry, at the E. B. Workman home. While at her home in St. Petersburg, Fla., where Harold was stationed, she came in contact with the current of an electric fan. By that means her life was suddenly brought to a close. At the age of ten years she united with the Methodist church at Paton, where she remained a member until her death, July 23, 1945. She is survived by her husband, her mother, Birdie V. Hansen, and a host of relatives and friends.
