Gordon, daughter of George B. and Eliza Gordon, was born in Clark county, Mo., Sept. 5, 1870, and passed away at Bloomfield, Iowa in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Walter Werts, Dec. 7, 1957, at the age of 87 years, three months and two days. In her early life she was converted and united with the Confidence Christian church. On March 27, 1889, she was united in marriage to Charles M. Putman, and the new home was established on a farm northwest of Confidence where they resided for 51 years. They were the parents of six children, a daughter, Viola, died in infancy and a son, Frank, in 1931. The surviving children are: Mrs. Leo Lewis, Russell; Mrs. Walter Werts, Bloomfield; Mrs. J. H. Cratsley, Waterloo; and Jerry C., of Denver, Colo. Also two sisters survive, Mrs. Etta Davidson, of St. Louis and Mrs. Mildred Fenley of Seymour; nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends. After the death of her husband, she moved to Russell in 1940 where she attended the First Baptist church as long as her health permitted. To the children of the community she was known as "Grandma Putty." Her first consideration was her home and the loving care of her family. Though her life cares are over, she did her earthly duties well. Funeral services were held at the Russell Baptist church Monday, Dec. 9, at 2 p.m. conducted by the Rev. A. E. Beals. Interment was in the Confidence cemetery.
