All are buried in the Natoma Cemetery. Iva's second marriage was to Henry Whitener. Although Iva died in Oklahoma, according to her granddaughter, she is buried in Natoma, Kansas. Obituary: LENA WHITENER Iva Lena Whitener, daughter of Levi and Iva Hawkins, was born Feb. 19, 1891, in Hall County, Neb., and died at the hospital in McAlester, Okla., on Jan. 16, 1974, at the age of 82, 10 months and 27 days. She moved with her parents to Osborne County, Kan., when she was a small child and attended rural school at the Star School in the XL community northeast of Natoma. She lived the greater part of her life in Osborne County. She was united in marriage April 10, 1910, to N. E. Saum. To this union were born two daughters and one son. One daughter dying in infancy. When the other daughter, Ruth, died. Mrs. Saum cared for her granddaughters, Joan and Jacquetta Belisle. She also cared for her husband's twin nephews, Marvin and Melvin Hendershott from Infancy. Her first husband died in 1944 her parents, one brother, Ellis Hawkins, and one sister, Jane Davis also preceded her in death. She was united in marriage to W. H. Whitener on Oct. 3, 1949, and they lived both in Natoma and in Oklahoma. Survivors are the widower, Henry, of the home in Natoma; son, Frank E Saum, Wichita, Kan. two sisters. Velma Burger, Natoma, and Vina Macklin, Ukiah, Cal. Two brothers, Morris Hawkins, Idaho, and Orvil Hawkins, Alpena, Ark.; four grandchildren, Joan Lewald, Beaumont, Calif, Jacquetta Morris. North Ridge, Calif, Connie Saum, Kansas City, Mo. and Duane Saum Hays; and four great grandchildren. Funeral services were at 2 p m Saturday, Jan. 19, 1974, at the Church of God Holiness, Natoma, with Rev. Wynn Lindahl of Kansas City officiating. Burial was in the Natoma Cemetery with Pohlman's Funeral Service of Natoma In charge of arrangements.
