Description	:	Mrs. Norene Gardner Cox, 76, died Tuesday night, July 16, 1985, at Twin County Community Hospital. She was born in Carroll County to John P. Gardner and Julia Ellen Cox Gardner, Feb. 6, 1909. She was a member of the Harmony Grove Primitive Baptist Church, Hillsville. Mrs. Cox was a member of the Cox's Chapel Grange, the Mountain Empire Pomona Grange, and was state director of Women's Activities of the Virginia State Grange for 25 years. Read More	Mrs. Norene Gardner Cox, 76, died Tuesday night, July 16, 1985, at Twin County Community Hospital. She was born in Carroll County to John P. Gardner and Julia Ellen Cox Gardner, Feb. 6, 1909. She was a member of the Harmony Grove Primitive Baptist Church, Hillsville. Mrs. Cox was a member of the Cox's Chapel Grange, the Mountain Empire Pomona Grange, and was state director of Women's Activities of the Virginia State Grange for 25 years. She was a 7th Degree Grange member. She was a retired elementary school teacher, having taught for 25 years in the Carroll, Grayson, and Alleghany counties school systems. She is survived by her husband, Joe B. Cox; two sisters, Mrs. Eva Jenkins, Woodlawn, and Mrs. Grace Edwards, Hillsville; two brothers, R. Solomon Gardner, Wytheville, and Elder W. L. Gardner, Hillsville, and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held in the Cox's Chapel United Methodist Church today (July 19) at 2:30 p.m. The Rev. Richard Hathcock, the Rev. Fred Jennings and Elder Jess B. Higgins will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Independence Rescue Squad or to the Perpetual Care Fund of Cox's Chapel Cemetery, c/o Gene Phipps, Rt. 1, Mouth of Wilson.
