Wapsie post, No. 421, American Legion, will conduct the military rites at Mt. Clark Cemetery. The body has been returned to the States from the Phillipines. Pfc. Bowen was born the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clark Bowen July 14, 1922 in Central City. He graduated from the Central City high school in 1939, following which he was employed by several local business firms, including the St. Anthony & Dakota Lumber Co. and the Central City Produce Co. He was employed at Quaker Oats in Cedar Rapids at the time he and his twin brother Ivan, were inducted into the army at Camp Dodge, March 11, 1943. He trained at Camp Polk, La. before going overseas in May, 1943. He landed in New Guinea, going from there to the Admiralty Islands and then to the Phillipines. He took part in the invasion of the Phillipines and while his company was attempting to take a hill March 2, 1945 he was shot by a Jap sniper and killed instantly. He was buried in an army cemetery near Manilla. He is survived by his parents; brother, Ivan of Marion; four sisters, Mrs. Delmar Sands, Mrs. Robert Akers, Dorothy and Margie Bowen; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Palmer and Archie Bowen; four nieces and nephews.
