Ivan Albert Cooke died Jan. 31,1969 at the age of 82 years. ======================================================== Obituary from an unknown newspaper clipping: Man Dies Getting Help For Fatally Stricken Wife An elderly Smithland couple, Mr & Mrs. Ivan Cooke, died within a short time of each other Friday morning after both were stricken. Mrs. Cooke 76, suffered an apparent stroke at their home at 7 a.m. Mr. Cooke 82, went to the home of a neighbor, Mrs. Gene Lewis, to get help and collapsed and died of a heart attack in the Lewis home. Mrs. Cooke died shortly after Mrs. Lewis went to the Cooke home to find out what had happened. Joint funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the United Methodest Church in Smithland. The Rev. Leonard Fugate will officiate. Burial will be in the Smithland Cemetery under direction of the Willman Funeral Home at Rodney, Iowa. Mr. Cooke was born April 27, 1886 at Kimball, S.D., and Mrs Cooke, the former Alma Wealthy Zortman, was born Oct. 10, 1892 at Sidney, Iowa. They were married Nov. 23, 1910, at Onawa, Iowa. The couple lived in the Smithland area all their lives. He farmed and drove a school bus until 1932 when they moved into town. He was employed at the Post Office until his retirement. Survivors include 2 sons, one being Leonard of Sioux City and three daughters, 13 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. Mr. Cooke is survived by one brother, Glenn of Vancouver, Wash., and Mrs. Cooke is survived by a sister, Mrs. Lena Babb, of Sebastopol. Calif.. The bodies were taken to the Willman Funeral Home at Rodney, Iowa. ======================================================
