Ivan Dale Hass was born February 14, 1929 on the farm south of Wisner, NE to Otto and Lydia (Vollmer) Hass. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Wisner. Ivan was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Wisner, NE. He served various church positions in the military and at Zion-St. John's Lutheran Church before moving to Wisner in 1987. Haas, 92, of wisher died Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at the Wisner Care Center. Ivan Dale Hass was born February 14, 1929 on the farm south of Wisner, NE to Otto and Lydia (Vollmer) Hass. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Wisner. Ivan was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Wisner, NE. He served various church positions in the military and at Zion-St. John's Lutheran Church before moving to Wisner in 1987. He attended public and Zion Lutheran School south of Wisner. He received his GED to get higher education in the military. On September 9, 1951, he was united in marriage to Viola M. Grafe at St. John's Lutheran Church in Beemer, NE and was married for 64 years. Ivan farmed with his father until January of 1953. He served in the National Guard before entering the US Army, served 20 years, and retired as a Master Sergeant. He served three tours in Vietnam, two as an advisor and one with the 9th Infantry Division. Some of the medals he was awarded are: Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Medal and the Combat Infantry Badge. After retiring from the Army in 1973, he returned to the family farm until 1987, and following health concerns retired from farming and moved to Wisner. Ivan loved to fly airplanes in his younger days, and did a lot of traveling stateside and overseas, he was also an avid fisherman. Survivors include two sons, a grandson, a granddaughter, a brother, and nieces and nephews. Ivan was preceded in death by his parents-Otto and Lydia Hass, wife-Viola Hass on October 20, 2015, and a brother-Marvin Hass.
