Description	:	Ivan Dean Ackerman, age 89, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born the son of John and Ella Sophia (Gallmeyer) Ackerman on August 30, 1928, at home on a farm near Allison, Iowa. Read More	Ivan Dean Ackerman, age 89, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born the son of John and Ella Sophia (Gallmeyer) Ackerman on August 30, 1928, at home on a farm near Allison, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Clarksville. Ivan received his education and graduated from the Clarksville High School in 1947. Ivan began his Salvage Yard business as a young man. He served in the United States Army overseas during the Korean War. On October 10, 1964, Ivan was united in marriage with Katherine Jolene Palmer in Waterloo, Iowa. They made their home and lived their entire married life in Clarksville. To this union four children were born, David, Craig, Roxanne and Robert. After marriage, Ivan owned and operated Ackerman’s Antiques and Auto Parts on Main Street in Clarksville. The building was formerly known as the Milo Mather’s Building. He bought and sold antiques, owned and operated his salvage yard, and retired after 60 years in business. Ivan was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Clarksville. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, going to the casino and being outdoors helping his customers. He always put others before himself and was the hardest working man his family ever knew. Ivan passed away on Monday, January 8, 2018, at his home, of natural causes. He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Ackerman on December 13, 2015; granddaughter, Anna Jolene; his parents; four sisters, Alma Sprague, Leone Rinerson, Arlene Clark and Lois Sharp; and three brothers, Verl Lee Ackerman in infancy, Raymond and Johnny Ackerman. Ivan is survived by three sons, David (Jeanette) Ackerman of Clarion, IA, Craig Ackerman of Des Moines, IA, and Robert Ackerman of Clarksville; one daughter, Roxanne (Mike) Novak of Cedar Falls, IA; six grandchildren, Robert, Andy, Emily and Patty Novak, Parry Starling, and Mitchell Ackerman; one sister, Evelyn (Dick) Beenken of Parkersburg, IA, one sister-in-law, JaNella (Kelly) Hubbard of Grand Junction, CO; and a special nephew, Clint (Marcie) Sharp and their children, Sam and Sydney of Parkersburg, IA. Memorial Services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 20, 2018, at St. John Lutheran Church with burial in the Lynwood Cemetery, both Clarksville. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Clarksville, and one hour before services at the church. Memorials may be directed to St. John Lutheran Church in Clarksville. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Clarksville is in charge of arrangements.
