He was born on May 27, 1925 in Kokomo, Indiana to the late Walter and June (Sherman) Mooney. In 1945, Ivan married Roberta McKay, and she survives. Mooney, 88, Greentown, passed away at 12:15 A.M. on Friday, August 9, 2013 at Century Villa Health and Rehabilitation, Greentown. He was born on May 27, 1925 in Kokomo, Indiana to the late Walter and June (Sherman) Mooney. In 1945, Ivan married Roberta McKay, and she survives. Ivan served our country during WWII with the United States Army, where he achieved the rank of technician fifth grade, or corporal. He enjoyed golfing, racing go-karts, fishing, hunting and shooting trap. He was also a past member of Greentown American Legion. Perhaps Ivan is most well-known for starting, owning and operating what is now called: Flowers by Ivan and Rick, a local flower shop that has now been in business for about 63 years. At the flower shop, Ivan enjoyed working alongside of a good employee and great friend, Chico. Ivan was dedicated to his business, community and family. He always had others best interest in mind. Ivan is survived by his lovely wife of 68 years, Roberta Mooney; son, Rick (Deborah) Mooney; grandchildren, Lori Thomas and Michelle (Michael) Lybrook; great grandchildren, Cody, Ricki, Katie, Abby, Jason, Cheyanna, Alex and Kolton. Other survivors include several nieces and nephews, and four legged best friend, Mo Mo. Ivan was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Heather Purvis, six brothers, two sisters; and a sister-in-law, Wahnetta. There will be a funeral service for Ivan at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at Ellers Mortuary Main Street Chapel, 725 South Main Street, Kokomo, Indiana 46901 with Rev. Harold Williams officiating. Following the service we will be taking Ivan to his final resting place in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery, Kokomo, Indiana. Ivan's friends and family are welcome to join for a time of visitation from 10:00 A.M. till the time of the service that same day, also at the mortuary. Contributions can be made in Ivan's memory to one of his favorite charities, The St. Jude Children Research Hospital.
