Read More	Obituary provided by Carolyn (Fichter) Myers, May 5, 1998 Ivan Leonard Fichter, age 80, died January 7, 1997, in Lynnwood, Washington, after a long and courageous battle with Progressive Aphasia and congestive heart failure. Ivan, or "Ike", as he was affectionately known, was born on his family's farm, November 2, 1916, in Farragut, Iowa. Ivan married Harriet Jane Crose of Sidney, Iowa, on December 25, 1939. They farmed in the sourthwest corner of Iowa until 1947, then moved to Richland, Washington, with their two small children, where he worked at the Hanford Project until his retirement in 1972. He and Harriet moved to Lynnwood, Washington, in 1975, to be near their two children and families. Ivan then worked for Microfloc of Corvallis, Oregon, as service representative for newly constructed water treatment plants in many parts of the world, retiring from there in 1981. Ivan was a "man for all trades" building cabinets, remodeling homes and generally repairing anything. His work is evidenced in many homes and churches in Richland, Lynnwood and other parts of the Northwest. He enjoyed visiting with people and was loved by all who knew him. His special joy was his family and building many custom pieces of furniture for his wife, children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Harriet, of 57 years; two children, Carolyn Myers of Lynnwood and Richard Fichter of Sumner, Washington, their spouses, Dennis and Judy; 5 grandchildren, Curtis, Mark, Leanne Myers, Jeremy and Ryan Fichter; and one great grandchild, Cory Myers; three brother, Gerald of Shenandoah, Iowa, Vern of Richland, and Keith of Brighton, Colorado. Also, his very special sisters-in law, Marian (Mrs. Vern Fichter) and Nancy (Mrs. Keith Fichter). Also surviving him are many cousins and several nieces and nephews + 2 aunts, his mother's sisters, (Nell Young Parrish of Riverton, Iowa and Verlin Young Yates of Sun City, Arizona). Preceding him in death were his parents, (Mable Young Fichter and George Fichter), one brother, Everett, and one sister, Velda. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 13, 11:00 a.m. at Northwest United Protestant Church in Richland. Internment also will be in Richland under the direction of Einan's Funeral Home. Visitation will be at Einan's from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday. Memorials may be made to Northwest United Protestant Church, 1312 Sacramento Blvd., Richland, WA, 99352. Carolyn also added "You may be interested to know that Dad's two aunts are still living...Nell is 103 and still lives by herself on the farm in Randolph, Iowa, except when she visits her daughter in Sun City during the winter, and Verlin is 87 and doing the same in Sun City. Nell calls Verlin "her baby sister"."
