He was born February 8, 1925 in Valparaiso, to Nels and Esther (Olson) Nord. He married Erma Jakoubek August 22, 1951. He was a retired rural mail carrier and drove over 1 million accident free miles over a 31 year period. Ivan was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Ceresco where he was baptized and confirmed, served on the church council for 25 years, and sang in the choir for 35 years. He was a WWII Army veteran and a member of American Legion Post #271, Valparaiso for 50+ years. He was a member of Comet Lodge #229 A.F. & A.M., Ceresco where he was a proficient member for 50 years, Ceresco Chapter #198 O.E.S., Sesostris Shrine, Wahoo Coin Club. Ivan served on the Raymond Central School Board for 8 years, Rural Fire Board for 26 years, served on the Oak Creek Township Board and Valparaiso Community Cemetery Board and was recipient of the Valparaiso Outstanding Community Citizen Award. Ivan is survived by his wife of 59 1/2 years, Erma; daughters, Judy Nord and Joni Nord, both of Lincoln; sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Clarence Christensen, Lincoln; sister-in-law, Margaret Nord, Lincoln; Brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Russell and Grace Pickel, Lincoln. Visitation will be held at Roper and Sons Funeral Home, 4300 'O' Street, on Monday, March 21, 2011, from 2-8 p.m., with the family present to greet friends from 5-7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Ceresco, Neb., on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at 11 a.m., with Pastor John Sievers officiating. Burial will be at the Valparaiso Community Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Shriner's Hospital or the American Heart Association. Arrangements by Roper and Sons Funeral Services.
