IVAN HARDIN, HUSBAND AND WIFE, PASS AWAY WITHIN 48 HOURS OF EACH OTHER The most startling and pathetic toll that the dread epidemic of Spanish flu has taken in this community, took place the latter part of last week when Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Harsin died within a few hours of each other, while on a visit at the home of Mr. Hardin's sister, Mrs. Ray Reimer in Grant township. Mr. and Mrs. Hardin have been making their home at Butterfield, Minn., and came to Radcliffe a couple of weeks ago to attend the funeral of a brother of Mrs. Hardin's at Radcliffe. Being so near their sister, a visit was planned at her home out in Grant township and after the funeral they came here for a few days recreation, rest and a family visit. A week ago last Thursday night both of hem showed their first symptoms of the "Flu" and while physicians were called and everything possible was done for the stricken couple, they slowly sank till the end came for Mr. Hardin Thursday and his wife's death followed on Saturday morning early. One of the pathetic facts surrounding this particularly sad case, is the fact that their little boy, Devere, 1 1/2 years old, was visiting with them and he, of all the family who left their home so happy in Minnesota, is left to face the world at a tender age all alone. Mr. Hardin is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Hardin who now reside on the old Sinclair farm north of Nevada and Mrs. Hardin is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Thompson [should be Tobias K. Thompson] of Radcliffe. The funeral was held this afternoon from the home of Mrs. Reimer, the Rev. Fred Ross Shirck conducting the services, while the interment was in a double grave at the Nevada cemetery. Mr. Hardin, who is 24 years of age leaves to mourn his death, besides the son and parents, four sisters, Mrs. Ray Reimer, Mrs. Simpson Toot, who was married the day before his death, Miss Fay Hardin and Miss Harriet Hardin, and one brother, Harry Hardin. Mrs. Hardin, who was 26 years old, leaves besides her parents, four sisters, Mrs. John Lettow of Radcliffe, Mrs. Jesse Claussen of Alden, Mrs. Amos Howda of Radcliffe, and Miss Emma Thompson of Radcliffe and a brother, Clarence Thompson of Radcliffe.
