HARLAN TRIBUNE TUESDAY, APRIL 19, 2016 page 9A Ivo Wilwerding, 80 March 5, 1936 - April 4, 2016 WESTPHALIA –– Ivo Joseph Wilwerding was born on March 5, 1936 to Carl and Irene (Rosman) Wilwerding in Earling. He attended country school at Union Township, spent two years at St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Earling, Dow City Catholic and public schools, three years of high school at St. Peter’s in Defiance, and graduated from Irwin High School. He enlisted in the United States Army on November 14, 1956, spending six months at Fort Chaffee, AR before being stationed in Germany for a year and a half. He received his honorable discharge on November 13, 1958. Upon his return to the United States, he started working for the Milwaukee Railroad and did so for ten years. Ivo was united in marriage to Darlene Coenen on May 21, 1960. There were seven children born to them: Gene, Gail, Lisa, Gary, Lori, Glen, and Gerry. They lived in Westphalia for three and a half years before moving to the family farm two miles west of Westphalia. They started farming in 1965 until his retirement in 2015. He loved his family and farming was his pride and joy. He also enjoyed fishing and watching the kids in sporting events. Ivo died on Monday, April 4, 2016 at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan at the age of eighty years and thirty days. Ivo was preceded in death by his parents, brother Richard Wilwerding, and sisters Phyllis Heller and Maxine Wilwerding. He is survived by his wife of nearly fifty-six years Darlene Wilwerding of Westphalia; children: Gene Wilwerding and his wife Laura of Earling, Gail Wilwerding and his wife Janet of Odebolt, Lisa and her husband Brent Thomssen of Manilla, Gary Wilwerding and his wife Kara of Council Bluffs, Lori and her husband Roger Uhrhammer of Aurora, IL, Father Glen Wilwerding of Council Bluffs, and Gerry Wilwerding and his wife Nancy of Mitchellville; sixteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Norma Jablonski of Omaha, NE, Jolene and her husband Ed Blum of Harlan, Judy and her husband John Thraen of Earling, Duane “Bud” Wilwerding and his wife Sandy of Omaha, Carol and her husband Don Eagle of Garland, TX, Larry Wilwerding and his wife Sharon of Omaha, and Jane Wilwerding of St. Louis, MO; other family members and friends. The 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Rev. David Smith, S. J. and Rev. Glen Wilwerding on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Westphalia. Zachary Daly accompanied the St. Boniface Choir. Serving as casket bearers were Steven Wilwerding, Jared Wilwerding, Bryan Wilwerding, Steven Blum, Jerry Thraen, and Don Wilwerding. Military Rites were performed by the Panama American Legion Post No. 601 and the Defiance Westphalia American Legion Post No. 707 at St. Boniface Cemetery. ..
