I.U. maybe truly classed as on of the old settlers of Turner County, as he came her in 1872 when but twelve years of age and has since made the county his home, his present residence being in section 11 of Monroe Township, where he is conducting a general farming business on his estate of 160 acres. Ubbe and Maggie Iwerks were the parents of I. U., came from Germany to this country in 1869, and located in Ogle County, IL, where they remained until 1872. In May of that year they moved to Vermillion, Clay County, Dak. Ter., and shortly after Ubbe homesteaded 160 acres near what is now Davis, SD, but which at that time was known as Turner. I.U. Iwerks was born in East Friesland, Germany, Jan. 5, 1860, and was nine years of age when he accompanied his parents to America. He located with them in Ogle County, IL. and when they moved to Dakota Territory he also came with them and grew up on the farm, he being his father's only assistant in developing the raw prairie land and getting it under cultivation. He remained a member of the parental house hold until he married in 1882, and in the spring of 1883 located on the farm where he now lives, which he entered as a homestead. The lady who presides over the household of I. U. bore the maiden name of Miss Hannah Gortmaker who is a native of Germany, but was raised in America since a mere baby. By her union with Mr. Iwerks they have become the parents of a family of seven interesting children; Maggie, Minnie, Ubbe, Jennie, Ernest, Carrie and Ira C.. ------------------------- Hello! His name is Iwerk U Iwerks he was born 5 Jan 1860 in Ostfriesland, Germany he died: 20 Apr 1934 in Monroe, Turner, SD For a Bio, you might want to add these facts: He Immigrated to the US in 1869 and married his wife Johannah Gortmaker in 1881 in Parker, Turner, SD They were the parents of Maggie (McElvain), Minnie (Robinson), Ubbe, Jennie (Davis), Ernest L, Carrie (Nelle) and Ira Charles (Hazel D Beach). The most notable of the children was Ubbe who worked with Walt Disney and actually created Donald Duck. You might want to look into that if it suits you.
