Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 25, 2015, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Brunsville. Inurnment will follow in St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery, Brunsville, with military honors provided by the Heeren-McHale-Wilkens American Legion Post #724 of Brunsville. Alvin Willer was born on May 20, 1927, in Le Mars, Iowa, the son of John and Katherine (Papritz) Willer. He attended country school in Brunsville. Following grade school, he attended high school in Le Mars. He graduated from Le Mars Central High School in 1945. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps in July 1945. He served his country during WWII while stationed in Germany. Following his honorable discharge in December 1946, he worked at the weather bureau in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, before returning to Brunsville to farm with his father. He was united in marriage to Kathryn Taylor on June 21, 1953, in Marshall, Minnesota. The couple made their home in Brunsville. In 1964, Alvin retired from farming and went into carpentry, first as a general contractor. Later he went to work for Lamperts in Le Mars before going to work for Donny Fulton. He worked with Donny for several years before retiring. Kathryn passed away March 19, 1996. Alvin continued to make his home in Brunsville. Alvin was a longtime member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Brunsville, where he held several leadership positions through the years, including church council member, cemetery board member, and Sunday School teacher for many years. He was a charter member of the Heeren-McHale-Wilkens American Legion Post #724 of Brunsville, where he had served as commander. Through the years, Alvin enjoyed antique tractors, attending threshing bees, and trap and target shooting. But most of all, he loved the times spent with his family. He will be greatly missed. Survivors include his four sons: Jay (Nancy) Willer of Akron, James (Vernetta) Willer of Huntersville, NC, John (Jayne) Willer of Merrill, IA, and Paul (Bobbie Jo) Willer of Marshall, MN; 9 grandchildren: Emily (Joe) Nelson, Laura, Lisa, Marques, Joseph, David, Daniel, Avery, and Cash; 5 great-grandchildren: Isabella, Naomi, Aiden, Gideon, and Reagan; two sisters: Paula (Glenn) Lawrensen of Vermillion, SD, and Carol Schlotfeldt of Webster City, IA; a sister-in-law: Joyce Willer of Le Mars, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Kathryn; twin sons; a brother: Charles Willer; a sister and her husband: Dorothy (Ray) Lubben; a brother-in-law: Ray Schlotfeldt; two nephews: Dean Lubben and David Schlotfeldt; and a grand-nephew: Eric Taylor.
