Description	:	Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at 10:00 am at Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. Wilton Anthony officiating. Burial will follow in the Antioch Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 26 beginning at 5:00 pm at Warren Meadows Funeral Home in Many. Mr. J. D. Salter was born on December 14, 1916 in Florien, LA and passed away on March 25, 2008 in Many, LA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Loucille Salter; parents, Don and Curtie (Leach) Salter; and son, James Lamar Salter. Mr. Salter participated on the basketball team at Florien High School he was awarded scholarships to LA College. He graduated from Florien High School in 1935. He married Louise Miller in 1940. Between 1935 and 1940 he worked with his father farming (cotton), and buying, selling and raising cattle. After 1940 he continued farming and started hauling logs. For 11 years (1946-1957) Mr. Salter worked at Florien Mercantile as a clerk and bookkeeper. In 1957 he became secretary/treasurer for the Sabine Parish Police Jury. He worked for 25 years then retired in 1982. In 1950 he was ordained as a deacon at Antioch Baptist Church. He is survived by his son, Joe Salter and wife Bettye of Florien, LA; daughter-in-law, Glenda Salter of Florien, LA; grandchildren, Amanda Gibbs, Don Salter, Jon Salter, Chris Salter and Brantley Salter; great grandchildren, Daniel Salter, Hannah Gibbs, Andrew Salter, Corinne Salter, Lucy Salter, Haylee Salter and Tyler Gibbs; and a host of friends. Pallbearers will be Don Salter, Jon Salter, Chris Salter, Brantley Salter, Clayton Cleveland and Billy Gibbs.
