SHILES CROCKETT DIES IN POCOMOKE Prominent Attorney Succumbs At Home in Pocomoke City-Was Native Of Somerset Following a prolonged illness, Mr. J. Shiles Crockett, aged 69 years, a practicing attorney of Worcester County and a member of the law firm of Crockett and Crockett, died at his home in Pocomoke City, on Saturday, March 31st. The deceased was born on the Belmont Farm near Princess Anne and was the son of the late Joseph S. and Sarah M. Crockett and received his early education here at the Washington Academy. He continued his studies at St. John's College, Annapolis, and was graduated from that institution in 1878. Among the graduates of his class were Henry D. Harlan, James P. Gorter and H. Arthur Stump, all of whom afterward became judges in the Courts of Baltimore City. Mr. Crockett taught school in Princess Anne, and subsequently at Cumberland, and practiced law for some time in the last mentioned city, thence removing to Pocomoke City where he had since resided. The deceased was affiliated with the Democratic party, having in 1912 represented Worcester County in the Maryland General Assembly. Mr. Crockett is survived by a daughter, Miss Margarette Dickinson Crockett; two brothers, Edward P. of Norfolk and John B. of Delmar, and a half-brother, William L. Crockett of El Paso, Texas. Mr. Archie M. Humphreys, an uncle, of Princess Anne, and Mrs. R. S. Cohn, an aunt, of Norfolk, also survive. The late Samuel M. Crockett, who learned the printer's trade here in the office of the Somerset Herald and afterwards became proprietor of the Worcester Democrat, was a brother of the deceased.
