Description	:	Jack A. Miller, 79, went to be with God after a long and courageous battle with strokes on Thursday, March 1, 2012. He was born April 17, 1932 in Ft. Wayne to Lloyd "Cap" and Ruth Miller. Jack attended South Side High School where he excelled at basketball and graduated in 1950. His basketball and academics earned him a scholarship to the University of Toledo, where he played ball and had the opportunity to participate in the NCAA tourney. Miller, 79, went to be with God after a long and courageous battle with strokes on Thursday, March 1, 2012. He was born April 17, 1932 in Ft. Wayne to Lloyd "Cap" and Ruth Miller. Jack attended South Side High School where he excelled at basketball and graduated in 1950. His basketball and academics earned him a scholarship to the University of Toledo, where he played ball and had the opportunity to participate in the NCAA tourney. Jack served in Saudi Arabia in the Air Force during the Korean War. After returning, he expanded his father's small delivery service into a trucking and courier company- Miller Delivery Service and MDS Courier Service. Jack loved his family, his dogs, tennis, and camping. He was a long time member of St. Joseph United Methodist Church and Ft. Wayne Dog Obedience Club. He helped create the Northrop Big Orange Pride Band Parents Association and was one of its first presidents back in the 1970's. Jack loved to travel in his motor home, covering most of the nation and Canada; his favorite spots were the U.P. of Michigan, The Grand Tetons, and Florida. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sarah (Libey) Miller; daughters, Cindy (Ted) Custer of Johnstown, PA and Valerie Miller of Ft. Wayne; son, Tim (Tammy) Miller of Ft. Wayne; brothers, Terry Miller of Lynchburg, VA and Larry Miller of Ponte Verde, FL; and seven grandchildren. Funeral service is 10:30 AM, Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at St. Joseph United Methodist Church, 6004 Reed Rd with calling one hour prior. Rev. Russ Abel officiating. Calling also from 4 to 8 PM Monday at D. O. McComb and Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Rd. Memorials to St. Joseph United Methodist Church.
