Jordan, 82 Born April 2, 1932 ~ Sioux City, Iowa Entered Into Eternal Rest December 1,2014 ~ Whiting, Iowa Age 82 years ~ 7 months ~ 29 days Jack Arnold Jordan, son of Arthur Francis and Ingrid Cecilia (Madsen) Jordan, was born April 2, 1932 in Sioux City. When Jack was four, his mother was severely injured and his father was tragically killed in an automobile accident. Jack was baptized and confirmed at Ingemann Danish Lutheran Church. He was later affiliated with the Onawa Methodist Church. He grew up on the farm near Turin and attended Arcola Country School through eighth grade. Jack attended high school and graduated from Castana High School in 1950. While in high school, Jack was active in Future Farmers of America (FFA) and he joined the Naval Reserves in Sioux City. Following graduation, Jack enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served aboard the battleship USS Wisconsin during the Korean Conflict. Following his honorable discharge, Jack returned to the farm near Turin. On August 21, 1960, Jack was united in marriage to Ruth Marie Pencook at the Onawa United Methodist Church. They were blessed with one son, James A. "Jim". Jack farmed his entire life and retired in January of 2013 due to failing health. Jack was a past Farm Bureau board director and was a county committee man on the former Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS), today part of the Farm Service Agency (FSA) for twenty years, having served as chair for many years. Jack was proud of his military service and was a forty-four year member of Grimsley Thayer American Legion Post 502 in Castana. Jack loved everything about farming, whether it was raising animals or growing crops. He enjoyed working with his brother and several hired hands throughout his farming career. He also enjoyed having people come to the farm and taking them for pickup rides through the Loess Hills. Jack also took great enjoyment in being a grandfather over the final 6 years of his life. Jack A. Jordan, 82, of rural Turin, IA entered into eternal rest on Monday, December 1, 2014 at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, IA. Jack is survived by his wife, Ruth of rural Turin, IA; son, James A. “Jim” Jordan and wife Jodie of Onawa, IA; granddaughter, Yolonda Jordan of Onawa, IA; one sister, Karen Zimmerman of Rochester, MN; two sisters-in-law: Carol Werner and husband Jack of Washington, DC and Sandra McGrew and husband Dean of Blaine, MN; three nephews; two nieces; other relatives and many friends. Jack was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Merle Shaffer; brother, A. Francis Jordan and wife Judith and a brother-in-law, Sheldon Zimmerman. Visitation 4:40-7 pm Sunday, Dec. 7, at Onawa United Methodist Church, Onawa, Iowa, with a Prayer Service at 6:30 pm. Funeral Mon., Dec. 8, 2014 10:30 am, at Onawa United Methodist Church. Pastor Dennis Burns will conduct the service and offer words of comfort. Ann Phillips, Organist and Michael Johnson, Pianist will accompany the congregation hymns "Amazing Grace" and "Battle Hymn of the Republic", with a piano solo,"On Eagles Wings". Pallbearers: Randy Madsen, Dave Madsen, Don Mack, Pat Conroy, Brian Conroy, Mike Kelley, Lyle Rose, Vernon "Butch" Krautkramer. Honorary Pallbearers: Ed and Pat Gardner, John Wanderschied, Kandy DeRochie, Roy and Janet Wakehouse, Richard Madsen Jr, Arles Dick, Jim Staska. Interment Ingemann Cemetery, Rural Moorhead, Iowa.
