Description	:	DAVID CITY - Jack D. Tarr, 80, of David City, died Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004, at David Place in David City. Services are 2 p.m. Monday at St. Luke's United Methodist Church in David City, with the Rev. Mark Schutt officiating. Burial is at the David City Cemetery. Visitation is 1-8 p.m. today at Roberts-Chermok Funeral Home in David City and continues at the church on Monday for one hour prior to services. Mr. Tarr was born Aug. 15, 1924, in Norfolk to Arthur and Bessie (Craven) Tarr. He graduated from Norfolk High School, Norfolk Junior College and Doane College. He was a World War II veteran who had served with C Company, 415 Infantry, 104 Division "Timberwolves." On Oct. 17, 1948, he married Betty L. Suchanek at St. Paul. They lived in David City from 1953-57 and moved to Crete where he was director of public relations at Doane College. After returning to David City in 1959, he worked at the Banner-Press. In 1970, he purchased the newspaper, becoming publisher and editor there. He sold the newspaper in 1990. He was involved with Rotary and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a member of the David City Area Foundation Board, David City Library Foundation Board, Nebraska Press Association and National Newspaper Association. As a member of the church, he served on various boards. Survivors include his wife; one son, Terry (Dana) Tarr of Amherst, Mass.; one daughter, Cheri (Roger) Schrader of Columbus; one brother, Donald (Marjorie) Tarr of Northfield, Minn.; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may be directed to the family.
