Description	:	The death date on this memorial was originally entered in as March 1, 1931. It was corrected when updates were done on April 14, 2021. Jack's death certificate may be seen in both familysearch.org and ancestry.com. According to that certificate, he was the son of Nelson and Eva (Knode) Hurd. This family seemed to spell their last name both as Hurd and Hird. I have confirmed with Nelson Hird's obituary that Jack was his son. According to that certificate, he was the son of Nelson and Eva (Knode) Hurd. This family seemed to spell their last name both as Hurd and Hird. I have confirmed with Nelson Hird's obituary that Jack was his son. Nelson Hird married Eva Knode on December 19, 1914, in Schuyler County, Missouri. By the time of the 1925 Wapello County Census, Nelson Hurd was divorced, and his nine-year-old son, Jack, was living with him. ---------- Obituary From "Ottumwa Daily Courier," Tuesday, March 3, 1931, Page 9: Jack Hurd, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Hurd, 901 South Milner street, was born January 30, 1916, at Lancaster, Mo., and departed this life February 28, 1931, at the Ottumwa hospital. He was 15 years, 1 month and 1 day of age. He was a very kind and loving child. His funeral was conducted by Rev. A.D. McClure. Burial made in Shaul cemetery. He will be missed by all who knew him. ---------- We wish to thank the relatives, friends and neighbors for their kindness and beautiful floral offering [sic] in the death of our son, Jack. Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Hurd.
