Burns, 82, of Muscatine, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 11, 2015, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, after a short battle with mucosal melanoma cancer. Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 15, 2015, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery with Military Honors by the combined squads of the American Legion Post 27 and the V.F.W. Post 1565. Visitation will be from 2 until 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, 2015, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army or the Muskie Booster Club. Jack was born on December 22, 1932, at the University of Iowa Hospital, the son of Dan and Vida Edgington Burns. Jack helped support his family with several jobs in Muscatine. He was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served as a Paratrooper during the Korean Conflict from 1954 until 1956. He worked at Stanley Engineering while also attending Muscatine Junior College. He received his BA degree and his JD law degree from the University of Iowa. He joined the Eckardt-Goedken Law Firm and served as Muscatine County Attorney, Muscatine Associate District Judge, and was a Seventh District Judge. He served as a judge for 25 years all together. He married Dorothy Roudybush on August 16, 1964, at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Muscatine. They enjoyed celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this last August. Jack was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 27. Jack enjoyed playing fast pitch softball, playing cards, bowling, fishing in Canada, and golfing with family and friends. He especially enjoyed his two grandchildren. He regrets he can't teach them to play baseball and softball. Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Dorothy Burns of Muscatine; his son, Kevin Jack Burns and wife, Trina, of Davenport; one daughter, Jenna Lee Burns of Iowa City; his two grandchildren, Faith, who is 18 months old, and Evan Jack who is 3 weeks old; his brother Wayne, and wife, Karen; and many nieces and nephews and other relatives. Jack is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Helen Dennison and Bonnie Conklin; and many loved ones. Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home
