Ruffer, age 77, of Stryker, Ohio, died Saturday, November 18, 2006, at the Community Hospital and Wellness Center in Bryan. He was a lifelong area carpenter, retiring in 1991 from Carpenter's Local Union 1581 and had worked for Baker and Shindler Construction Company in Defiance, for many years. Mr. Ruffer was born near Stryker on October 29, 1929 the son of the late Earl and the late Helen L. (Leupp) Ruffer. On April 4, 1954 he married Jo Steingass in the Poplar Ridge Brethren Church in Defiance County, and she survives. An Army Veteran of the Korean War, he was a member of the Stryker American Legion Post and the Defiance VFW. He was also a member of the Evansport Fox Hunters Club, and the Fulton County and Brush Creek Horseshoe Clubs. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending time with his family. Surviving besides his wife, Jo, is one daughter Sandy (Richard) Bostater of Bryan; three sons Terry (Marsha) Ruffer, Ned (Connie) Ruffer, and Ben (Dawn) Ruffer, all of Stryker; grandchildren Shanon Kimpel, Brittaney Kimpel, Jordan Ruffer, Kamilla Ruffer, Brady Ruffer, Justin Ruffer, Colin Ruffer, Parker Ruffer, Lauren Ruffer and Brooke Ruffer; one great-granddaughter McKenzie Mason; step-grandchildren Ben Woolace, Eric Woolace, Tyler Woolace and Christa Hancock; six step-great-grandchildren; two sisters Jane Stuckey and Joyce Smith, both of Bryan; and one brother Jim Ruffer of Stryker. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son David, one granddaughter Melissa Jean, and one brother Gene Ruffer. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, November 22, 2006 at the Stryker United Methodist Church, with Pastor Crystal Goodnight, officiating. Interment will follow in the Poplar Ridge Cemetery in Defiance County. Friends may call at the Grisier Funeral Home in Stryker on Tuesday from 2 - 4 and 6 - 9 P.M., and from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service on Wednesday, at the church. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the Organ Fund at the Stryker United Methodist Church. Online condolences may be offered at www.GrisierFH.com
