Jack was born on February 13, 1918 to Katherine and Eugene Judd at Soap Lake. He was raised in Tonasket and graduated from Tonasket High School. Jack led a very colorful life with many adventures. He was known for his sense of humor, infectious smile, generosity and helping others in search of their sobriety. Jack never met a stranger and was known for his charm and big heart. Jack was extremely dedicated to Alcoholics Anonymous. With almost thirty years of sobriety, he was a devoted ambassador; encouraging and guiding others unconditionally. His service and mission to A.A. earned him respect and admiration. He is well known throughout the country in the A.A. community. He was very instrumental in establishing the Alanon Club in Wenatchee. Jack had many battles in his life, including his most recent with cancer. He always fought with courage and determination. Jack spent 532 days on the front lines in World War II in the 3rd Infantry Division. He participated in many major invasions. He served in Patton's army in Africa and fought alongside Audie Murphy in the invasion of Sicily and Italy to name a few. His service and bravery earned him the Silver Star for his "gallantry in action." In Jack's early years he hitchhiked across most of the U.S. picking cotton, boot legging and loading trucks to pay his way. He owned and operated many restaurants before settling into his occupation as an Ironworker. Jack was a member of Ironworkers Local 86 of Seattle and the California Field Ironworkers. He worked on every dam in the state of Washington, High-rise buildings, missile sites, the Golden Gate Bridge, Disneyland and Hanford to name a few. His work took him to many states. Jack was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Eagles, and American Legion. He was also an avid golfer and loved early morning games. Jack will always be loved and missed by his family and many friends. He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Jackie and Gary Babst of East Wenatchee; Jerri and Joe Schlosser of Sedro Wooley; his son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Sue Foster of Everett. He also leaves behind his loving grandkids and great-grandchildren, Michelle, Bob and Libby Gallaher, Janelle and Jim Schmutzler and Garrett and Kara Babst, all of East Wenatchee; Sally, Scott and Connor McPherson and Kreg Schlosser of Mt. Vernon; Michael, Kelly and Chyme Foster, Stephanie, April and Skylar Clinton, Paul and daughter, Danielle Foster, all of Everett; and his sister, Mary Call of Tonasket. He was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers. Jack lived by the power of the Serenity Prayer. God grant us he serenity to accept the things we cannot change, courage to change the things we can, and wisdom to know the difference. Jack had the courage but cancer was one of the things he could not change. Dad, Gramps, don't let the wheels touch the pavement on the "Hiway to Heaven". We love and miss you so very, very, very much. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 11, 2004 at the First United Methodist Church in Wenatchee with Pastor Sam Detwiler officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. The casket will remain closed at all times. Memorial contributions may be made to Alanon. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
