Description	:	Jack R. Bassett of Wenatchee, died Friday, March 9, 2001, at Central Washington Hospital. He was born Nov. 23, 1910, in Brewster, one of seven children born to John and Jessie Bassett. He moved to Seattle in 1930 and married Verna Waddell of Chelan on Nov. 29, 1933. They moved back to Wenatchee in 1936, where Jack was a radio operator for the Chelan County Sheriff's Department. Read More	Jack R. Bassett of Wenatchee, died Friday, March 9, 2001, at Central Washington Hospital. He was born Nov. 23, 1910, in Brewster, one of seven children born to John and Jessie Bassett. He moved to Seattle in 1930 and married Verna Waddell of Chelan on Nov. 29, 1933. They moved back to Wenatchee in 1936, where Jack was a radio operator for the Chelan County Sheriff's Department. In 1942, he moved to Metlakatla, Annette Island, AK with the Civil Aeronautics Administration and there, was awarded the Carnegie Hero Award presented by the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission and the British Empire Medal by the Canadian Government for saving the lives of the crew of a Canadian Air Force Bomber that crashed at the U.S. Air Force Base at Metlakatla on Sept. 24 1942. He moved back to Wenatchee in 1944 and went to work for R.A.C.C. (Regional Agriculture Credit Corporation) for two years. He finished his career in the fruit warehouse management and sale business until his retirement in 1980. His wife died in September of 1984. He met and married Midge Nafsinger in May of 1987. She was from Caldwell, ID. He is survived by his wife, Midge Bassett of Wenatchee; two sons, Terry Bassett of Carlsbad, CA and Don Bassett of Lake Oswego, OR; four grandchildren, Kristen and Beau Bassett of Santa Barbara, CA and Kari and Brooke Bassett of Lake Oswego, OR; two sisters, Marianne Myers of Portland, OR and Bernice "Bee" Brown of Bremerton. At his request, there will be no funeral services held. Memorial contributions may be made to "Our House" or "Central Washington Hospital Hospice." Arrangements are under the direction of Betts Funeral Service.
