Meents Sr and Elsie I. (Boller) Meents. On August 16, 1953 in Monticello, Jack married his 6th grade sweetheart, Doris Marie Rieken; she passed away on October 1, 2012. He was born on December 15, 1933 in Monticello, IN to the late Gerald F. Meents Sr and Elsie I. (Boller) Meents. On August 16, 1953 in Monticello, Jack married his 6th grade sweetheart, Doris Marie Rieken; she passed away on October 1, 2012. Jack served 8 years in the Army National Guard. He gave the majority of his working career to Nipsco as a gas service man. He retired in 1992, having completed 39 years. He also farmed most of his life. Jack had been in failing health for the past couple of years before moving to SC to be with his daughters. Jack enjoyed working in his yard. He loved sharing time with friends and family and was eager to help in any way. He was very loving and kind, and enjoyed having conversations and telling stories. Jack will be remembered for ALWAYS being available to share a hug and give unconditional love. As a lifetime member of Monticello Christian Church, he was chairperson and/or active on numerous committees. He also served as deacon for many years. He was always giving out hugs. Children always knew he had a supply of candy in his suit jacket just waiting for them. He is survived by two daughters; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and two sisters. In addition to his parents and wife, Jack was preceded in death by his brother, Gerald Meents Jr; sister, Mary Swartz; two brother-in-laws, Archie Swartz and Frank Duncan; one sister-in-law, Margie Meentz; niece, Melissa Sue Meentz; and nephew, David Lee Crane.
